Did You Know?

AIDSTAR-One has developed a technical brief on HIV prevention for serodiscordant couples.

This document provides a synthesis and systematic review of core programmatic components related to this emerging HIV prevention topic. It also includes links to resources that planners and managers can use in their own work.

AIDSTAR-One is pleased to announce the launch of its HIV Prevention Case Study Series. Access the first publication: Secret Lovers Kill.

While improved access to treatment has slowed HIV mortality, prevention remains key to halting the rise of HIV transmission. The current U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) five-year strategy seeks to prevent millions of new HIV infections by supporting comprehensive, cutting-edge prevention programming. Multi-level approaches can have the greatest impact, since they target the most affected populations, regions, and drivers of the epidemic as they simultaneously reduce the spread of HIV among the general population. Young people especially need prevention programs to learn how HIV is transmitted and how to protect themselves. Also critical are programs to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMCTC), a major PEPFAR prevention focus.

AIDSTAR-One is committed to supporting the development and implementation of effective prevention programs at scale. To serve prevention program designers and managers, AIDSTAR-One strengthens access to essential information and technical assistance:

  • The AIDSTAR-One Good and Promising Programmatic Practices (G3P) database offers planners and managers information to help them design and implement effective programs based on the experience of others. Technical briefs and case studies in key areas synthesize prevention program experience to date, and focus on essential components of prevention programs that are effective and can be scaled up
  • AIDSTAR-One provides programmatic support to improve the quality and sustainability of HIV prevention programs and activities, with a focus on expanding the knowledge base in newly emerging technical areas, such as programs to address multiple and concurrent sexual partnerships and alcohol-related HIV risk.
  • By providing short- and long-term technical assistance, AIDSTAR-One enables U.S. Government-funded HIV prevention programs and activities to work with partners at the country level to develop their own evidence-driven strategies and implementation plans.
