National Treatment Guideline, Ethiopia

Ethiopia's national pediatric HIV treatment guidelines document was published in 2008. This document presents a national approach that integrates the principles of ART for infants and children. Treatment criteria include HIV infected infants and children at WHO pediatric clinical stage 3 and 4 regardless of the CD4 counts, CD4 counts percentage below the threshold, and advanced or “severe” HIV disease. The guidelines also recommend a second treatment option should first line treatment fail. An extensive approach to opportunistic infections, nutrition and co-infection with TB are also included in this document.
